Game of Thrones faced a competitive field that included Netflix’s The Crown and Stranger Things, as well as FX’s Taboo. Always known for its incredible scenery, season 7 took things up a notch with a plethora of amazing locales, including Italica (the Dragonpit) and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (Dragonstone). By the same token, Jon’s expedition north of the Wall highlighted gorgeous real-world locations in Iceland. Perhaps no location was more spectacular than Los Barruecos, where the production dug in to film the Loot Train Attack in the fourth episode, The Spoils of War.
This was Game of Thrones fifth nomination and fourth win. Thrones has won in every year that it was nominated except for 2017, when it lost to The Crown. But is The Crown driving tourism to filming locations like Game of Thrones is? We doubt it.
Other winners included Dunkirk (Outstanding Locations in a Period Film) and Baby Driver (Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Film). Head to The Hollywood Reporter for the full list.
